The story theme makes it more engaging than plain shape puzzles.Pros:The challenges start super easy and ramp up gently, perfect for ages 4-7. It’s small and portable, so we toss it in the diaper bag for waiting rooms or car rides. The bright, sturdy-looking plastic pieces have a nice chunky feel that little hands can manage.Cons:A couple of the thinner sliding pieces feel a bit loose and can pop out if you’re not careful, especially when my toddler tries to “help.” Some of the later levels got frustrating fast for my preschooler, and we had to peek at solutions more than I expected. Compared to other SmartGames we own, this one’s board seems a tad smaller.Tips:Start with just the first 10-15 challenges and do them together the first time—my kiddo felt more confident that way. Keep the box nearby because the pieces like to wander off during play.Overall, it’s a sweet little brain-builder that sparks some giggles and thinking time with the kids. Not flawless, but we pull it out pretty often on slow afternoons.

I have both a 4.5 year old and a 7.5 year old, so I figured one of them would enjoy this. I was not prepared for how much my 4.5 year old would be into it. He has passed up ipad and nintendo time on multiple occasions to play with this instead. He likes to solve a puzzle the right way and then make up his own rules/story to play it. Then he sets up the next puzzle and does it again.If you’ve played with a Rush Hour game before, it’s similar to that. You set up the pieces according to the picture and then see if you can slide them around within the given rules to help hansel/gretel escape through the opening on the base. There are some interesting twists in that there are holes in some of the squares and lollipop pieces where the handle will slide down and lock into place in the hole if you move them onto that space. So you have to plan your movements carefully because some pieces may become stuck in place at some point. The cottage also does not move.There is a picture-only comic book included with the hansel and gretel story in it included as well.The quality of all the materials is great. The colors are vibrant and playful. The puzzle book is spiral bound so it stays open to the puzzle you’re working on. It has just enough pieces to make a variety of challenging puzzles, but not so many that you’ll be constantly finding them all over your house for months to come. It’s not an overwhelming amount for the kids to clean up after each play.I’m glad to have a cute toy that encourages using your brain and keeps my kid entertained.

This is a single player game where you set up a “shuffle the pieces” puzzle and then work to solve it by sliding pieces around to let Hansel and/or Gretel escape. The challenges are arranged in a book from easier to harder and it was easy for both my kids to follow the image from the book to set the challenge up on the puzzle (and there are solutions in the book as well). While the pieces are cute, sometimes it’s a bit awkward to set a piece in its spot exactly as there are two channels.My barely 5 year old got frustrated easily but kept wanting to come back to the game through the day. My 7 year old persevered and kept going at the game. We played with each of us setting it up for the next person; my kids also played independently.

I really like this game! My daughter is 4 and I wasn't sure if she'd really enjoy it yet or if we'd have to put it up for a year or so but she does actually enjoy it. I like that its a game that gets her using her brain. The quality is really good! It feels very well made. The whole idea of the game is clever and there's many different ways to arrange the pieces for different difficulties. The picture book is slightly questionable to me just due to the content; I feel it could have been left out and the game would still be great. Overall I would consider this game a good value!
